New Patients

We regret to inform you that from Thursday 14th November 2019 we have had a temporary list suspension. Please see this letter for full details.

Temporary List Closure

We will continue to register newborn or adopted babies of parents already registered at the practice, first degree relatives of patients already registered at the practice who are living at the same address within our boundary, and patients from the care homes that we look after (details available on request).

Due to an unexpected and unprecedented demand for new registrations, we feel that continuing to register new patients could potentially jeopardise our ability to provide safe care to those patients already registered at the practice.

Please note that the practice is not able to maintain a waiting list of patients who would like to register in the future.

Once Park Practice is able to commence accepting NHS registrations, this information will be available at reception and on the practice website.

If you are not currently registered with a GP surgery and are finding it difficult to locate one, please call East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group on 0300 131 4425 (based at Bexhill Hospital) and speak to the Primary Care Team.

We are in discussion with the Clinical Commissioning Group to resolve this situation as quickly as we can, and we are sorry for any inconvenience.

Please find the CCG’s website details below, which allows patients access to further information, an electronic allocation form and contact details, to help ensure that allocation and registration as quickly as possible:

Out of Area Registrations

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to accept new patients who live outside of our practice area.

If you are currently registered with the practice and move out of our catchment area, you will need to register with a surgery that covers the area you live in.

Temporary Registrations

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Training Practice

Dr Harvey is accredited to train doctors to become GPs so there will often be junior doctors working with the wider team and running their own clinics with appropriate support and supervision.

GP Registrars

GP Registrars are fully qualified and must have done at least two year's hospital medicine before they can start their General Practice Training. They are known as GP Specialist Registrars and the training lasts three years, most of the first two years takes place in Hospital but at least one year (including all of their final year) takes place in General practice. The whole practice is involved in training, although Dr Harvey is the trainer responsible for the Registrars. We all benefit greatly from having these young doctors in the practice. Learning and teaching is a two-way process and the Registrars help to keep us all up to date.

Registrars provide extra appointments in the practice which helps us to cope with our workload and hopefully makes it easier for you to see a doctor when you need to. They often have longer to talk to you than your own doctor would have. If they are not sure what is wrong with you, they can call for help.

Part of their training and successful completion of their course involves videoing their consultations. These videos are viewed afterwards by the registrars themselves and probably their trainer. Occasionally, they are viewed by other registrars as part of the training process, and they may be viewed by examiners (who are all GP Trainers) as part of the final assessment that ensures that all doctors are competent to practise unsupervised. We would ask you not to lightly refuse permission for your consultation to be videoed. You can always ask the doctor not to use the video if you don't like the way the consultation went. We always ask you to sign your permission beforehand and then again afterwards. If you change your mind, we won't view the video, which will be deleted.

We feel that teaching helps to keep the practice up to the highest standards.

FY2 Doctors

Following recent modernisation of the training and career structure of doctors in the NHS, the first two years after qualifying as doctors are now known as Foundation Year 1 (FY1) and Foundation Year 2 (FY2). One of the changes introduced as part of this modernisation is the idea that as many doctors as possible should experience a period of time in general practice regardless of their eventual chosen career in medicine. We in general practice support this wholeheartedly and are convinced that, regardless of the specialty they eventually choose, all doctors will benefit from an insight into the workings of general practice. Therefore, our practice now accommodates FY2 doctors for periods of four months as part of their training. They work closely with us and are under supervision throughout their time with us. We are sure that this arrangement will benefit patient care in the future.

Appointments

There are now many ways in which you can seek help. Before considering asking us for help, please consider the variety of self-help resources listed here, including your community pharmacist, services you can refer yourself to and the online access routes. If you still need routine help, you can ring us on 01323 502200. For infection control reasons, during the COVID-19 pandemic, please do not come to the surgery to book an appointment

When you call for an appointment, the receptionists will ask if you are willing to give them a brief outline of your symptoms to be able to direct you towards the right service which could be the Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Paramedic, Nursing team, your local Pharmacist or other community service.

We would appreciate your co-operation towards our reception team. If you do not want to tell the receptionist what your symptoms are, it is perfectly acceptable to say that it is a private matter.

**Covid changes**

We are currently only booking telephone consultations with our clinicians (with the exception of a number of nursing procedures).

If your issue cannot be resolved via a telephone or a video consultation, the clinician will book a face-to-face consultation at the surgery for you.

When you arrive at the surgery, please wait in your car for this appointment/nursing appointments where possible. Ring the surgery on 01323 514383 to let us know you have arrived; the clinician will then text you when they are ready to see you and will meet you at the door.

If you need to wait in the surgery, please press the intercom; you will be triaged by a member of the Reception team.

Please do not arrive more than a few minutes before your appointment. Please note that patients attending for blood tests will need to wait in the surgery; again, please only arrive a few minutes before your appointment.

Please use the hand sanitiser on entry. Face coverings are now mandatory in our building.

Thank you for your continued co-operation and understanding in allowing us to provide the best care and support possible to all of our patients.

How to make an appointment

You can ring us on 01323 502200.

You can book at our reception desk.

Booking via the NHS App and Patient Access are not currently available. You can find out more about the online services that we support here.

Telephone consultations

If you feel that your problem could be dealt with over the telephone, please ask the receptionist to book you a telephone consultation with a clinician.

Telephone consultations

During the current Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering video consultations where appropriate.

** Important information regarding images sent by email: Please note that any digital image submitted as part of an online consultation / prior to a consultation will be stored within your clinical notes**

Pre-bookable appointments

A limited number of appointments can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance with the remaining appointments released on the day.

Further information about appointments

Usual appointments times are 10 minutes.

If more than one family member needs to be seen, each patient must be allocated a separate appointment.

Please let us know if you would like a member of the practice team to accompany you during your consultation.

Community Pharmacists

Pharmacists are highly trained and therefore equipped to deal with medication needs and are often a quicker alternative than ringing the Surgery.

111 Service

NHS 111 can help you if you need urgent medical advice or if you have an urgent medical problem and are not sure what to do. The NHS 111 service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Text Reminder Service

There is now an Mjog App which will send you text reminders for any appointments booked here at Park Practice.

Download "Mjog Messenger" in the App Store or Google Play Store or follow the link: www.mjog.com/messenger/

It is important to keep your contact details up to date, please inform the surgery should any of your details change.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception as early in the day as possible.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Test & Results

Tests & Results

Blood Tests / Urine / Stool Sample Test results will normally be available 7 days after the sample has been handed in/taken. Please note that we can only access test results after 2.15pm.

Results from investigations undertaken at the DGH (e.g. X rays / scans) will not normally be available for 3-4 weeks after the investigation. Again, we can only give these out after 14:00. If the Clinicians are in any way concerned about test results, they will contact you as soon as they view the result.

If any tests (x-rays, scans or blood tests etc.) have been requested by hospital personnel (even if the test was completed at the surgery) the result will go back to the requesting clinician.

Our reception staff are not qualified to comment on results but will be able to tell you if the doctor has seen them and and whether or not they would like to discuss the result. It is, however, your responsibility to check this and make any necessary follow-up appointments.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them

Prescriptions

Please always allow 4 working days between requesting the script and collecting it; please allow 5 working days if the script is being sent to a pharmacy.

We can arrange for prescriptions to be sent directly to most pharmacies in the area and if you want your medication delivered you need to contact the pharmacy direct to enquire if they offer this service.

You can put your request in writing and deliver it to the surgery.

You can ask your pharmacy to request your medication.

We do not accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions.

If you are aged over 16 years old and you are registered for Online Services (Patient Access or the NHS app) you can order your medication online via the NHS App or Patient Access.

COVID-19 Prescription Advice

Due to an unprecedented amount of staff absence and a surge in demand on our prescription service, we are only able to deal with urgent prescription enquiries on the phone.

Please allow a minimum of 4 days from when you submitted the request before checking with the pharmacy and surgery. Pharmacies are also struggling under the pressure of the amount of prescriptions they are receiving and therefore prescriptions are taking longer to process.

**Please note that prescription requests will be filed in the surgery/won't be processed until the week that it is due, even if we receive the request early**

Following the text message sent on 30.03.2020, please be aware that there are 4 ways you can order your prescription:

  1. Using the NHS or Patient Access App.
  2. By email. scriptsatparkpractice@nhs.net **Please be aware that the email service has only been reinstated to assist us with infection control and it will be removed once the crisis has resolved **
  3. Through your Pharmacist if this has been previously arranged with them.
  4. By paper request through the practice post box. Please only put in a paper request if you are unable to submit a request any other way. This is to help us protect staff and patients from Covid-19.

If your medication is out of stock, or you are looking for a home delivery, you will need to ring around pharmacies in the area - we are unable to do this on your behalf. Thank you for your continued co-operation and understanding in allowing us to provide the best care and support possible to all of our patients.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be regularly reviewed. If you are sent a letter to attend for a review or to undertake blood tests, please ensure that you book your appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Electronic Repeat Dispensing

Our Practice is collaborating with NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) which is providing NHS numbers for those patients that may be suitable for electronic repeat dispensing prescriptions. The information is obtained from NHS prescriptions submitted to the NHSBSA. A member of our clinical team will contact these patients soon to explain the benefits of this service.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS prescription charges apply in England. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.15
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Purchase a Prescription Prepayment Certificate online here.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website. If a certificate is required before 7 days, there will be a charge which you can pass on to your employer if they insist on a certificate earlier than one week.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work' (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - 'Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

For more information see the DirectGov website (where this information was sourced).
